Facebook has abandoned its plans to build a satellite that could have cost $500 million to provide cheap internet access in developing countries. The social media giant has been exploring ways to expand internet access in emerging markets, including the Internet.org initiative. However, the cost of the satellite project was deemed too high and it was scrapped before it was even announced. Facebook recently launched Facebook Lite, an ultra-lightweight Android app designed to make the social network easier to access.
